"Pallet Jam" art reception and open mic event

When: 2:00 PM - 6:00 PM SUNDAY, AUGUST 1

Where: At the Pallet City sculpture, FIGMENT Terrace Season-Long Sculpture Garden, Governors Island

As part of Pallet City, their interactive sculpture made out of recycled shipping pallets, artist Katherine Gressel and architect Jeremy Reed invite all Governors Island visitors to bring their own instruments, theatrical props, dance routines, and ideas for creative outdoor performances on our 8'X12' pallet "stage," and/or other parts of the sculpture (see attached photos). Alongside watching pre-selected acts, members of the public can sign up for their own performance slots--first come, first served! The event will close with a "jam session" where different musicians can improvise together. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic, sun umbrella, and a lot of imagination. All ages and experience levels welcome.

This event will also serve as the closing reception for Found on Governors Island, an exhibit on view in the pallet "gallery" featuring work by 6 artists/artist teams inspired by the physical and social conditions of the island.
